About Us
There is not much to explain about Base64Deco. It is a Base64 encoder and decoder, and its job is converting text to and from Base64 with full UTF-8 support for Chinese characters and emoji, and auto-detects which direction you want. What follows is how it works, why it exists, and what it does with your data.
Why this site exists
Most developer tools online spend more screen space on advertising and consent banners than on the calculation. Base64Deco takes the other approach — the tool does one thing, converts text to and from Base64 with full UTF-8 support for Chinese characters and emoji, and auto-detects which direction you want, and the page stays out of the way while it does. A narrow scope is easier to keep correct, too.
How the result is produced
The calculation happens in your browser, not on a server. Specifically, it encodes the bytes of the string in UTF-8 first and then groups them into 6-bit chunks for the Base64 alphabet, which is why non-ASCII text survives intact instead of becoming mojibake. The method is documented rather than concealed, so you can reproduce a result by hand and see exactly where any difference comes from.
Where your data goes
Privacy here is a property of the design, not a promise: the text or Base64 string you paste never leaves your browser, because the calculation runs there. There is no server to receive it, no store to hold it, and no third party with access to it.
Who tends to use it
- developers who need an answer between two builds.
- engineers verifying output before it is committed.
- anyone who values a tool that needs no account.
Who pays for this
Base64Deco costs nothing to use, and the hosting is paid for by advertising. That advertising is kept separate from the calculation: it cannot see what you type and it has no influence on the result.
